![]() Lee Server is one of my favorite writers. A historian of popular publishing, his books OVER HER DEAD BODY (on the early paperbacks) and DANGER IS MY BUSINESS (on the pulps) are always near at hand. In the 1970s, Server had the opportunity to participate in the last era of the paperback original novel -- as a writer for hire. But, at that point in time, the work was almost exclusively underground "adult" writing -- which he recounts in "Hardcore Days" appearing in novelist/book collector/historian Gary Lovisi's excellent journal of paperback lore Paperback Parade #20. Server turned in manuscripts for Midwood Books and some surfaced under the Star Distributors imprints as well. While the subject matter that was acceptable in the 1970s is currently TABOO, his books are well-crafted genre fiction.
