![]() Alexander Trocchi Alexander Trocchi was a very important figure in the development of popular erotica. As a young poet and novelist, he founded the Paris-based avant-garde literary magazine MERLIN which originally inspired Maurice Girodias to propose the idea of THE TRAVELLERS COMPANION (TC) series to Trocchi and his friends, a group of young ex-patriots in mid-1950s Paris. Trocchi used the pen-name Frances Lengl and wrote several books for the TC series, among them HELEN AND DESIRE and WHITE THIGHS. Following his TC works, Trocchi became addicted to drugs and his life spiraled away from him and down into despair -- even sinking so low as to become a bookseller in the London outdoor markets(!) He died at 59 in 1984, and is remembered for his promising early novels YOUNG ADAM and CAIN'S BOOK.
