These are the post-Milton Luros-era Brandon Books, appearing in the mid-1970s, after Luros' sale of the vast American Art Enterprises (with all its book, magazine, production and distribution systems) to Cleveland-based porn-distribution mogul Reuben Sturman. As mentioned elsewhere on this site, the early 1970s were a pivotal time in the history of adult-publishing -- with no clearer example of the multi-faceted shift than the fate of Brandon House books. Prior to the 1972 sale of operations to Sturman, Luros ran a half-dozen or so book lines (Brandon House, Brandon House Library, Essex House, Barclay House, Cameo, etc.,) -- each one fairly well-edited and in some cases, carefully nurtured by Luros himself. However, afterwards, under the brand of American Art and/or Publishers Consultants, the booklines multiplied by the dozens -- repackaging previously issued texts with new covers and titles, spinning off new imprints serving niche audiences and riding the trends of whatever was selling best that season. As with the Parliament magazine production line, there was less and less new original material being generated -- and while the quantity of titles went up , the quality was quietly seeping out. Indeed, the line between Brandon House sleaze books and Brandon adult books is blurry, gray, and sometimes downright impossible to detect (as many titles were printed as sleaze, then slapped between sexed-up covers and re-printed as adult books). The following books were issued under the Brandon book line in the mid-1970s. The cover art aped the Liverpool Library Press series with the pen-and-ink work of the unknown artist whose work graced the covers of Chelsea Library Press, Stag and numeorus other adult booklines. Editorial services were attributed to: BRANDON BOOKS 21332 Lassen Street, Chatsworth, California 91331
Be sure to check the Brandon House early sleaze section also! New books will be added as they become available.
