Bedside Books & Bedtime Books
Originating in 1959, this was one of the earliest adult book publishing enterprises and was the model for Bill Hamling, publisher of the Greenleaf empire. The Bedside Books and early Greenleaf books share a number of authors and a cover artist -- actually establishing the pseudonyms of "Clyde Allison," "Dean Hudson," "John Dexter," and "J.X. Williams." Initially these Bedside Books were published under the copyright "Initial Edition" headquartered at 200 West 34th Street, New York, New York Late in 1959, Bedside mutated into Bed Time Books, atttributing publication to "Valiant Publications," headquartered at the same address above. In 1961, the print numbers begin in the 1200s and the books become Bedside Books again, this time published by "Pert Publications," headquartered at 489 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York Beginning with 1962's #1225, the books shift into both smaller format, different cover artist (replacing the efforts of Harold McCauley, John (husband of Elaine) Duillo and others with the distinctive expressionistic work of ___), and a new publication entity called E. K. S. Corp, now operating from 22 East 40th Street, New York, New York
