The short run of Crescent books were graced with the cover art of both Gene Bilbrew and the husband wife team of John and Elaine Duillo, with Bilbrew producing the lionshare of the titles. However, two of the several titles the Duillos contributed, NEVER TOO YOUNG and THE HUNGRY ONES are classics of sleaze cover art.
While the first four titles claim a Philadelphia, PA origin, the rest of the Crescent books issued from the Cleveland Headquarters of Reuben Sturman's World Wide News Corporation (WWNC), here assigned the address of 2075 East 65th Street, Cleveland, Ohio -- an address I recently visited only to find a overgrown vacant lot. Along with the other WWNC books, Crescent, Mercury, Chevron, and Satan Press, they represent the best-loved color work of the late, tormented and demented Gene "Eneg" Bilbrew.
His was a distinct vision of the world and he employed an equally distinct means of expression as well.
Writers included Paul Hugo Little, Ben Stone and others.
Be sure to cross-check the "Writers" and "Artists" and "Themes" areas also!
New books will be added as they become available.
