![]() Norma Jeane Mortensen was born in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926 and grew to be immortal -- embodying sexuality in an innocent, playful way that still melts the heart and heats the libido to the boiling point. All the more diificult to accept is her lonely death as she resided in the hearts of so many millions of fans around the world. Many have and will write of her, expressing their own connection to her powerful presence, but here it must plainly be stated tht I believe Marliyn Monroe shifted the culture of the world into welcoming the expression of sexuality -- simply because she made it all so wonderfully appealing! Her sexuality came across as a natural elemental force -- all good -- not evil! Rather than the usual presentation of sexuality as shameful, evil, corrupt or corrupting, she indicated through her performances that this most powerful force of sexuality can be also be sweet and nurturing! In the post-war years when the machismo wave of returning soldiers washed over the country -- powering a newly robust economy by marrying, settling down and raising families, here was an embodiment of the perfect woman who everybody wanted to marry, settle down and raise a family with! She kept the fires of lust burning for every citizen-- embracing the athelete (Joe DiMiaggio), the thinking-man (Arthur Miller) and our President (JFK)! Let's not say "Goodbye Norma Jean." Instead, let's keep saying hello, again and again! She did not leave us! She will be with us always! A few years back, Bendikt Taschen of TASCHEN BOOKS published an incredible love-poem to Marilyn created through from the photographs and diary writings of photographer (and now it is revealed... lover) Andre De Dienes. I feel that relationship may be one of the great love stories of the 20th century -- between a man, a woman and a myth they both lovingly created -- but in so doing lost their love to the world who would embrace the myth.
