![]() 1960s Adult Magazines As the 1960s progressed, censorship was relaxing its constraints on nearly a month-by-month basis. The major adult publishing houses ( such as Milton Luros' Parliament ) would have legal alerts circulated after each obscenity trial and new limits would be established -- and pushed to their extremes in the forthcoming publications! The minor publishing houses would follow in their footsteps -- often playing things a little rougher hoping their limited distribution would shield them from scrutiny -- but lacking the resources to mount any kind of significant defense arguing First Amendment protection as was the usual strategy of the bigger publishing houses. Lots of smaller presses got into the game -- on both the East and West coasts. These brought a slightly looser style to their production, sold less ads and likely found their distribution entirely through adult bookstores, rather than the various outlets served by the major periodical distributors. Check out the Adult Glossy Magazines of the 1970s and 1980s Be sure to cross-check the "Books," "Writers" and "Artists" and "Models" areas also! |
